DRIVE SELECTION ..... Key 1 to Key 4 in SW1

Key 1 to 4 in SW1 are used to one of up to a maximum of four drives.
The relevant key is to be turned "ON" while the others should be
turned "OFF".

 SW1 Drive Selected Signal
 --------------------------
Control of DRIVE SELECTED Signal .... Key 5 in SW1

"ON" side ... A drive is in a selected state regardless of DRIVE
SELECT 1 to 4, which means DRIVE SELECTED signal is
always true and all Input/Output signals are validated
                without selecting the drive.

x"OFF" side .. Drive Selected signal becomes true and all
input/output signals are validated only when a drive
is selected with Drive Select 1 to 4.

SW2 Terminate the control signals
----------------------------------
This switch is used to terminate the control signals. Keys 1 to 8 in
SW2 of the last drive must be set to "ON" (in the other drives, must
be set to "OFF"). All keys are set to "ON" at factory shipment.

The drive may be installed horizontally or vertically, except the
horizontal position with the PCB on top.

Frame structure
---------------
The disk enclosure (signal ground) is electrically isolated from the
drive mounting frame (frame ground). When mounting the drive in a
cabinet frame, the frame should clear the drive by at least 3.5 mm
to prevent the drive from touching the cabinet frame.

Ambient temperature
-------------------
The operating temperature range of the drive is specified at a dis-
tance of 3 cm from the drive.

Cable connection
----------------
The drive is interfaced to a system through four connectors.

Connection of drive to a controller is shown in that figure. To
connect two to four drives, the A cable (control signals) must be
connected in series and the B cable (R/W signals) in parallel. The
termination of control signals must be performed only at the last
drive.

Noise filter
------------
To eliminate AC line noise, a noise filter of the specifications
given below should be incorporated in the AC input terminal of the
disk drive power supply.

Features

FUJITSU M224XAS2 OEM MANUAL 41FH5013E-01

Media error
-----------
Cylinder 0 is defect free.
The number of defect in the drive are as follows:

 M2241AS2 .... 31
 M2242AS2 .... 54
 M2243AS2 .... 86

Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
---------------------------------
The MTBFs of the drive during their life time are 30,000 hours
estimated value after an initial period of 3-month.

Failure of the equipment means failure that requires either repairs,
adjustments, or replacement. Mishandling by the operator, failures
due to bad environmental conditions, power trouble, controller
trouble, cable failures, or other failures no caused by the equipment
are not included.

Mean Time To Repair
-------------------
MTTR is the average time taken by well-trained service mechanic to
diagnose and repair a unit malfunction. The drive is designed for a
MTTR of 30 minutes or less.

Service life
------------
Overhaul of the drive is not required for the first five years.

Power loss
----------
Integrity of the data on the disk is guaranteed against all forms of
abnormal DC power failure except a power failure during writing.

Write Precompensation
---------------------
Whenever two bits are written in close proximity to each other, a
phenomenon called pulse superposition occurs, which tends to cause
the two bits to move away from each other. This is a large factor
contributing to bit shift.
The effect of bit shift can be reduced by a technique called pre-
compensation, which, by detecting which bits will occur early and
which bits will occur late, can effectively minimize the shift by
writing these bits in the opposite direction of the expected shift.
Precompensation had better be done at 0 383 cylinders, but may be
done at all cylinders. Performance without write precompensation is
also guaranteed. The optimum amount of pre-compensation is 12 nano-
seconds for both early and late written bits.

Start and stop time
-------------------
Start time (time from when power is turned on until the unit is
ready) is 20 seconds or less and stop time (time to completely stop
when power is turned off) is 15 seconds or less using dynamic
braking.
